Guest Bathroom Re-Do

When we first bought our house, we knew we wanted to re-do and re-paint all the rooms. The only room that I kind of liked was the guest bathroom. It was a deep blue that we liked, so Eliza and I painted a fresh coat of the same color. The only problem was that once I painted all the other rooms in the house, I realized that the deep blue didn't really go well with the other light & airy colors that we had used throughout the house. So I've been dying to repaint this bathroom! My friend Melissa Wilson has a really pretty greyish green color on one of her walls and I loved it! When I asked her about it, she said she had almost a gallon left that I could use... made me so happy.  :)  So I finally repainted the guest bathroom a week or two ago & put some much-needed art on the wall.
This was the guest bathroom before I repainted it.
And this is the new color.  { Valspar "Smoke Infusion" }
Emily came & hung out with Davis while I painted.  :)
And I added some art work to the empty wall.
They're maps of New York, Chicago, and Boston.
The background color of the maps matches the walls almost perfectly!
Well, there you go... our new {calmer} guest bathroom.
Melissa, you're awesome.  Thanks so much!!  :)

Finishing touches!

Once we got all the big things in the house done & the rooms painted, all we had to do was some finishing touches before we could move in!  We spent 3 days painting trim & probably a day and a half finishing up the electrical work.
There were no baseboards, window moldings, door moldings,
or crown moldings in a lot of the rooms.
Or shoe moldings.  So we had to add those.
But once they were added, they needed to all be painted white.
So my family came over and helped a lot with trim!
Mom & Isaac
Finished all the trim!
Then we had to hang shower curtains.
And Jake came over to finish the electrical work.
Then Aaron installed all the plantation blinds...
...and Eliza & I shortened them to the right lengths.
I heart plantation blinds.  :)
Pictures of the finished product coming soon!

I'm a slave driver.

Some people say I'm OCD.  I'm not, I just like for my house to be clean.  So this whole house renovation with dirt, sawdust, and paint everywhere has been a challenge for me.  But thankfully, we're done cutting boards & making messes so I enlisted my wonderful friend Jessica to come scrub my house with me.  She's also obsessively clean and I appreciate that about her.  :)  She helped me scrub my bathrooms, bedroom floor, and kitchen floor.  At one point, she was hugging my toilet to clean behind it.  I owe her.  Big.  Meanwhile, while she was hugging my toilet, I was cleaning out the tub in our guest bathroom.  It was a big mess when we bought the house.  Luckily my sweet friend Katherine and her husband Jay came to see the house and Jay suggested that we refinish it.  Best idea ever.  Thank you Jay!!
Cleaning the tiles in the kitchen...
...with a toothbrush. Good friend right there.
Clean kitchen floor!  Yay!
Now...on to the guest bathroom.
Bought this little gem at Home Depot.  Worth every penny.
Yep.  This was the tub.  Yowzers.
True story:  No one would have visited us.
This is what Aaron came home to on his lunch break.
First I had to scrub the tub with a heavy duty cleaner.  3 times.
And scrub the tub with steel wood.  3 times.
And it made the tub look like this.  Not much better.
Then I sprayed a light coat of the refinishing spray.
This was after coat #1.
30 minutes later, I sprayed a heavier coat #2.  It's white again!
Done-zo!
Now hopefully more people will be willing to come visit us!
I love me a clean house.  :)

Adding a master bathroom

One of the biggest drawbacks to our house was that there was only 1 bathroom.  Luckily, the back half of the house was an addition and the master bedroom was plenty big enough to add a bathroom in.  :)  So here are some pictures of the bathroom we added...
This was the bedroom before the bathroom.
And this is the place where the bathroom ended up.
So we had to move the door over to the right.
Aaron removed the flooring where the bathroom was going to be.
And put up the frames for the bathroom.
Soon-to-be bathroom.  :)
They put up drywall,
and installed the tub.
The skeleton of the linen closet.
Added a door,
and laid tile on the floors.
Beadboard on the walls!  :)
Starting to look more like beadboard. I heart beadboard.
Put grout in the tiles.
Aaron tried hard to persuade me that we needed a urinal.  Ha!
Installed the toilet & vanity.
Painted the walls.
And then we finished up by adding crown molding
and hanging the shower curtain.  :)
And putting in the baskets & the finishing touches.
So thankful for the second bathroom!
